Continuing Education

the S.E.E. program

Continuing Education for Health Professionals

While S.E.E. is designed for people directly affected by epilepsy, consistently 20% - 40% of the audience are health professionals. Though the information provided in the S.E.E. program is presented in an easy-to-understand format, it is comprehensive, in-depth, and up to date. S.E.E. has been used as a “crash course” in epilepsy for many health professionals, epilepsy association staff, psychologists, social workers, school nurses, assisted living staff, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and others.

S.E.E. has the additional advantage of modeling an entire patient education method that is proven effective. Thus professionals gain knowledge about epilepsy and acclaimed skills in patient and family education.

S.E.E. had an unexpected benefit for professionals: many wrote on their course evaluations they particularly liked attending S.E.E. with people directly affected. Hearing and seeing patients’ and families’ reactions throughout the course taught more about the impact of epilepsy in real life than any other training they had received.

The S.E.E. program has been approved for Continuing Education credit for a wide variety of health professionals, including physicians, nurses, school nurses, and pharmacists; and allied health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists vocational rehabilitation counselors, driver safety examiners, residential care staff, and others. Approval for Continuing Education varies from program to program, depending upon the requests made by the local sponsor. Contact the local sponsor listed under “Dates & Registration” to find out about CE availability.

Nursing:

S.E.E. has national approval for Continuing Education for Nurses, except for three states (CA, FL, IA) who do not recognize the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation standards. “This continuing nursing education activity was approved by NCNA, an accredited Approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.” Approval Number 7822, 10/8/06 to 10/8/08, 14.75 Contact Hours Total.

Physicians

S.E.E. has been approved for AMA Category I Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit. Approval is sought by the local sponsor. Organizations that have approved S.E.E. for CME credit include UCLA, Northwestern University, Vanderbilt University, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin, A.I. duPont Institute, North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), and several VA Medical Centers and local Medical Centers.
